River FCXO-07F: Pushing the Boundaries of Low-Voltage Precision Oscillation

As the electronics industry relentlessly pursues lower power consumption across every segment — from IoT edge nodes and wearable devices to next-generation 5G infrastructure and space-constrained portable instruments — the demand for ultra-low-voltage precision timing sources has never been more urgent.

  • Supply voltages are dropping
  • Designs are tightening
  • Traditional 1.8V, 2.5V or 3.3V oscillators are becoming an obstacle rather than an enabler

River Eletec has answered this challenge with a landmark product: the FCXO-07F operating at a supply voltage of just 0.9V — a specification that represents a genuine step forward in oscillator miniaturization and power architecture.

Main Features

  • 24 MHz – 54 MHz CMOS crystal clock oscillator
  • Ultra-low supply voltage — 0.9V to 1.5V
  • 1612 robust ceramic package with metal lid
  • RoHS compliant / Lead free

Why Does Voltage Matter?

The operating voltage of an oscillator is a fundamental design parameter. Historically, 3.3V and 2.5V were standard, and the industry has been migrating toward 1.8V for several years. A handful of products have reached 1.2V. But 0.9V represents a threshold that only a very small number of designs have ever crossed — and for oscillators with meaningful frequency stability, it is essentially uncharted territory.

Modern microcontrollers and RF transceivers are now designed around 0.9V. When a precision oscillator requires a higher supply voltage, the system designer must introduce additional components to adjust the supply value, adding cost, PCB area, and complexity — and, ironically, additional noise sources that degrade the very timing performance the oscillator was chosen to provide. The FCXO-07F eliminates that compromise entirely.

Key Technical Specifications

The FCXO-07F is not a low-voltage product that sacrifices performance to achieve its headline figure. The specifications are competitive across the board:

Parameter FCXO-07F
Supply Voltage 0.9V, 1.2V, 1.5V
Nominal Frequency Range 24 MHz – 54 MHz
Frequency Tolerance @25°C ±7 ppm / or otherwise specified
Frequency Stability ±20 ppm @ -40°C to +85°C; ±50 ppm @ -40°C to +125°C; or otherwise specified
Output Level CMOS
Output Load 15 pF
Size 1.6 × 1.2 × 0.6 mm

These are not preliminary numbers. This is a production-ready specification sheet with real, guaranteed performance parameters.

Package and Ordering Information

The FCXO-07F is housed in a 1.6 × 1.2 × 0.6 mm 4-pad SMD package, a form factor compatible with modern high-density PCB assembly processes and reflow soldering. The package dimensions are identical to many competing low-voltage oscillators in the market, meaning that the FCXO-07F can in many cases serve as a pin-compatible, voltage-downgrade replacement for existing 1.5V or 1.8V designs where the host system has migrated to a lower supply rail. Frequency is specified to customer requirements within the 24 to 54 MHz range, with stability options of ±10 ppm, ±15 ppm, ±20 ppm, ±30 ppm and ±50 ppm available. Operating temperature range is -40°C to +85°C as standard, with other ranges available on request.

A New Benchmark for Low-Voltage Timing

Today's standard is 1.8V for "low voltage" oscillators. Tomorrow's standard will be 1.2V. And the designs being architected right now for IoT devices, wearables, and edge nodes over the next five years will increasingly demand 0.9V.

The FCXO-07F is not ahead of the market — it is precisely on time.

It delivers what engineers need: a real product, with real specifications, that connects directly to the supply rails they are already using, in a package that fits the boards they are already designing, with the frequency stability their applications demand.

For designs where every milliwatt counts, where every square millimeter of PCB space is contested, and where the supply voltage is no longer negotiable, the FCXO-07F is the answer the market has been waiting for.
